Authors I have known

The other day, I had occasion to unearth a book I hadn’t read in a long time–The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher.  While the romance genre isn’t one of my favorites, I admire good writing in any genre and Mrs. P., as she was referred to in my house, lived and still lives in the town in which I was born and raised–Dundee, Scotland.
I think everyone who reads is interested in writers who come from, live in, or have lived in the place or places they know, particularly if they were born in the same place.  They may write about places you have in common or they may write stories set in an entirely different place or time, but, somehow, there is a connection.  The strength of common geography is inspires comfort and familiarity, even though that visceral connection is both tangible and intangible–tangible in the geography commonality, but intangible in that the author and reader may have nothing in common at all.
