Creative Writing and Tennessee Williams

I just read this quote from Tennessee Williams:  “If the writing is honest it cannot be separated from the man who wrote it.”  How true!  Those who are not engaged in creative writing sometimes think that creative writing comes out of nowhere, but that’s not the case, is it?  It comes from our experiences, how we’ve lived, who we’ve met, what we’ve seen, and how we’ve processed it all.  It builds on what came before.  I keep thinking about creativity and how it evolves from each of us.   Perhaps there will never be an easy answer to the source of our creative impulses and endeavors, but it’s always interesting to think about this elusive process.
