At the end of June, I presented the findings from my preliminary study on biography information. After searching approximately 50 literary figures in Cengage’s Literary Resource Center, Gale’s Biography Reference Bank, Wikipedia, and the Open Web, I have developed a list of questions to ask the two commercial vendors (Cengage, Gale) and improved the chart I’m developing to study and understand this topic more clearly. My next effort will take place in Fall, when I will solicit authors’ names to build a list of about 1,000 names to search on my sabbatical in spring, 2011. Conclusions will be tricky, but I have discovered copyright issues, shifting information (particularly on the Web), and different approaches and interests in these four sources. The topic is fascinating. More to follow! My PowerPoints from the presentation can be viewed on one of my academia.edu pages.
